[0009] Method and system for providing personalized reference services, the method comprising: receiving input from a subscriber requesting a search, the input being structured to request a reference topic for a reference item related to the input; determining at least one topic in response to the request; providing at least one of an alphabetic index and a reference topic list of reference items; providing the subscriber access to a listing of the topics selected; and providing the subscriber the reference topic of the at least one reference item for which the reference topic list is provided. The inputs comprise a request to search a set of reference items. The set of reference items comprises a plurality of reference items, each reference item relating to a reference topic.
